Dubbo Adventures (Part 1): Camping at Kangaroo Creek & a Day at the Zoo

We’ve made it to Dubbo, NSW – and what a spot! After a relaxed run from Parkes, we set up camp at Kangaroo Creek Hipcamp, a peaceful stretch of open grass with views that go on forever.

The first night was all about staying warm (and learning that turning the heater down is a good idea when you’re off-grid!). Morning greeted us with clear skies, four layers of clothing, and a much-needed cuppa before we headed into town.

Our highlight? A full day at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo. It’s not just any zoo – you actually drive through the enclosures! From black rhinos and giraffes to tigers and cheetahs, it felt like an Aussie-style safari.

If you’ve never been, it’s definitely worth the stop. And if you’re travelling with a teardrop or small van, Kangaroo Creek makes an excellent base for a couple of nights.
